This program dates to the 1993 general election, when Elections Canada set up polling stations on a certain number of reserves across the country. The main objective of the program is to provide interpretation and identification services to electors in the community and to reassure Aboriginal electors who are not familiar with the election process. Since 1997, the program has included Inuit and Métis communities. Ce programme remonte à l'élection générale de 1993 alors qu'Élections Canada le mettait en œuvre sur les lieux des bureaux de scrutin d'un certain nombre de réserves à travers le pays. L'objectif principal du programme consiste à fournir des services d'interprétation et d'identification aux électeurs de la collectivité et de rassurer les électeurs autochtones qui ne connaissent pas bien le processus électoral.
